End the saga of death and destruction in Iraq

Re “A Funeral Instead of a Wedding,” Jan. 15

The number of U.S. military deaths compounds daily, and we are again in a quiet period of little visible outrage at the perpetuation of this operation in Iraq.

Officials in high places continue to offer differing interpretations of what has transpired and what was needed but was not at hand; witness recent interviews with L. Paul Bremer III, former U.S. point man in Iraq.

What does seem apparent is that most often the right foot knows not what the left foot does. Meanwhile, our soldiers die daily.

Speaking as if I were a parent, Mr. Bush, please take control and get a handle on true probabilities in Iraq and let our young people come home to their families and live their lives to fruition.

It is time to deal with reality and end this saga of death and destruction.

Democracy is wonderful, but so is taking care of business at home.
