Crooks Walk Off With Jewel-Encrusted Slippers

Thieves made off with the jewel-encrusted slippers worn by a 19th century Indian prince, a toe ring and an ankle bracelet from Toronto’s Bata Shoe Museum, police said.
The items, valued at nearly $200,000, were taken from a display case. A curator said the jewels were “cloudy, decorative-level gems” unlikely to fetch a high price in illegal markets.
