Recall Effort Aimed at Gonzales Falls Short

From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Leaders of an effort to recall Supervisor Josie Gonzales said Monday that they did not have the required number of signatures from registered voters in her district to force an election.

Residents in unincorporated Muscoy and Bloomington who kick-started the drive for more than 11,000 signatures said they would not submit what they had gathered to the county registrar of voters but would consider trying again.

Recall backers had expressed concern that Gonzales would allow their rural communities to be overrun by development.

“Disagreement and debate about the vision for their communities is realistic and healthy,” Gonzales said in a prepared statement.

“But now we must reach a common ground.”
