The explosion inside Finland’s National Museum on Monday may have been caused by methane gas from Helsinki’s sewer system, the Finnish news agency STT reported Tuesday.
The news outlet quoted police as saying that the gas apparently flowed into a storeroom next to the silverware exhibition from a floor gully and was ignited by a spark from an electricity switchboard there.
STT said the explosion damaged doors and windows but no one was hurt. The museum is closed Mondays.
