Cabinet OKs Extension of Afghan Mission

Prime Minister Romano Prodi’s government agreed to keep Italian troops in Afghanistan, despite opposition from pacifists in his coalition.
The Cabinet unanimously adopted a decree that extends financing for the operation.
Defense Minister Arturo Parisi said Rome would not send additional troops or boost funding.
