Farmar’s Market

Share

Every amateur athlete with dreams of playing at the professional level should read and commit to memory Mike Bresnahan’s June 30 article, “Farmar Looked Suited for NBA.”

Jordan Farmar’s conduct at the NBA pre-draft camp -- dressing for success, playing hard not flashy, showing up in shape -- reminds us that sports is a business, after all, and owners, from Jerry Buss to Mark Cuban, are still looking for the same core qualities in athletes as in the accountants, marketing analysts and secretaries they hire: respect, personal accountability and being a team player.

That might sound corny and simplistic in today’s era of the millionaire athlete, but if Maurice Clarett had followed similar principles, perhaps he’d be watching football from the Denver Broncos’ sidelines, instead of the television with the rest of us.

With Lakers management stating that Jordan Farmar is not expected to play much next season, why not lend him back to the Bruins, where he would play every game and gain the much-needed experience the 6-footer will need to be a contributor in the NBA?
