Some Mammoths Could Have Been Blonds

Mammoths may have come in various colors, perhaps even red and blond, research indicates.
Researchers in Germany were able to extract DNA from a 43,000-year-old mammoth bone. They reported in Friday’s issue of Science that the mammoth DNA included the gene Mc1r, which codes for a protein that affects hair color in mammals.
