Leonard Slatkin, music director of the National Symphony Orchestra, will conduct the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl for eight concerts between July 11 and Sept. 14.

“I was up in Aspen [Colo.], recently; I was also a student there in the ‘60s, but I never stayed in a hotel. This time we stayed at the Hotel Jerome, and it was wonderful. It’s an old hotel, but they’ve redone it. But with all the contemporary hotels in Aspen, I enjoyed a touch of old Aspen.

It’s on Main Street. Imagine what a luxury hotel from the 1880s must’ve looked like. The rooms are spacious. Wood all over the place. Newspaper articles from the old days of Aspen line the walls. In the summer they have a beautiful patio restaurant and garden with a small swimming pool in the back. And I found the service and the people to be first-class and attentive.
