A Houston man was brought to Orange County in handcuffs Friday to face triple murder charges in the gruesome stabbing deaths of a Garden Grove family.

Quang Van Quan, 35, was arrested Wednesday at his Houston home in connection with the May 29 slayings of Phong Hung Le, 30; his wife, Trish Dawn Lam, 25; and her 6-year-old son, Tommy.

The couple’s 10-month-old daughter, Kaitlyn, was left for dead and spent two days in the home before authorities found her. She was hospitalized with dehydration. The girl has been placed in protective custody, where she is “doing very well and recovering,” authorities said Friday.

Quan, who authorities said knew Le in prison in the mid-1990s, was tracked down using forensic evidence as well as information obtained from “separate credible sources,” Garden Grove police said in a statement Friday.

Le, a former gang member who had served 6 1/2 years in prison for robbery and destroying jail property, is believed to have owed Quan a large sum of money.

“The motive at this point is believed to be robbery,” the police statement said.

Quan, also known as Con, is originally from Los Angeles, authorities said, but had moved to Houston and traveled from there to Garden Grove to commit the crime. He returned to Texas a few days after the killings, they said.

Police said Friday that the investigation is ongoing and more arrests are expected.
