North Korea rejected a U.N. Security Council resolution imposing sanctions on its missile and nuclear programs, warning that it was a prelude to a renewed Korean war. Pyongyang said it would “bolster its war deterrent for self-defense,” a phrase often used to refer to its nuclear weapons program.

North Korea drew condemnation this month by launching a long-range missile that might be capable of reaching U.S. territory. The Security Council voted unanimously Saturday to impose sanctions.
