L.A. Boy Who Needs Medicine to Leave Beirut
A Los Angeles woman stranded in Lebanon pleaded with American authorities for days to evacuate her family because her son was running out of medication vital to his transplanted liver. Late Tuesday, she got her wish.
Rima Issa and her two young children were to be transferred today to Cyprus, her husband, Amer Issa, said from Los Angeles, where the family lives.
Nine-year-old Noureddine, a transplant patient vacationing in Lebanon, had only a six-day supply of his medicine left after an explosion from an Israeli airstrike made him drop the bottle.
Noureddine underwent a liver transplant in 1997 and since then has taken an anti-rejection drug twice a day.
Rima Issa, her daughter Farah, 12, and Noureddine arrived in Lebanon on June 15.
