General Motors Corp. Chief Executive Rick Wagoner said Tuesday that he planned to keep his job even if the Detroit-based automaker entered a three-way alliance with Nissan Motor Co. and Renault.

“I have no intention of leaving my position at GM,” he told reporters when asked if he would step down should Carlos Ghosn, CEO of Nissan of Japan and Renault of France, win a GM board seat. “We are in the middle of a huge turnaround that’s getting a lot of momentum, and we really need to stay focused on that.”

The three automakers agreed Friday to review the potential benefits of an alliance.

“If there is value to be created and it’s the best option for GM shareholders, we’d be glad to do it, as we have shown time and again,” said Wagoner, appearing at the British International Motor Show to introduce the Opel/Vauxhall Corsa subcompact car.

Also Tuesday, Wagoner told CNBC that there had been no alliance talks with Toyota Motor Corp.

Jim Press, the Japanese automaker’s North American president, said Toyota was open to alliances but had held no discussions with GM about expanding their current ties.
