32 Freed in Goodwill Gesture to Militants
Pakistan’s government freed 32 tribesmen in the northwestern town of Miran Shah as a peace gesture to militants it has been fighting in the North Waziristan region. The 32 had been detained on suspicion of involvement in attacks on Pakistani security forces.
Pakistan was rounding up Afghans in southwestern Baluchistan province, amid pressure to capture Taliban militants suspected of launching attacks across the border.
Since Sunday, police in Baluchistan said, 215 Afghans studying at Islamic schools have been detained for staying in the country illegally.
