Pools out of their leagues

READING “Laps of Luxury” [May 25] about the swimming pools made me quite concerned. How can someone (Steven James) spend $400,000 on a pool that he doesn’t even plan to use? What a waste of the Earth’s resources! Couldn’t he have put his money to better use? With so much suffering and poverty in the world, to put a “duck pond” in your yard for this outrageous amount of money is downright disgusting. We wonder why the majority of the Earth’s inhabitants don’t like us greedy, wasteful Americans.

OK, that does it. Reading about the obscenity of homes with $400,000 swimming pools is enough to turn your stomach. And just think, Steven James says, “I don’t like swimming. You get wet.” He and others like him, of which there are too many, should have “Let them eat cake” tattooed on their foreheads so as to identify themselves as the hogs of the planet.
