Broadway has a bountiful year

New Yorkers and tourists, lured by celebrities such as Julia Roberts and undeterred by a 7% increase in average prices, filled Broadway theaters in record numbers over the last year.

Attendance rose 4% to 12 million and revenue increased 12% to $861.6 million, according to data released Wednesday by the League of American Theatres and Producers. The average ticket price was $71.78 in the season that ended last week, up from $67 a year ago.
