A two-mile stretch of Westminster’s main thoroughfare is set to be dedicated Monday to the city’s first police officer killed in the line of duty.

The section of Beach Boulevard between the Garden Grove and San Diego freeways will be named Westminster Police Officer Steven L. Phillips Memorial Highway. Phillips was killed near Beach Boulevard in 2004 when his motorcycle collided with a car, whose driver also died.

The motorcycle officer, who was 46, spent 18 years with the Westminster Police Department, police spokesman Sgt. Dan Schoonmaker said.
