‘Rider’ divides audience

RE “Going, Going, Gone,” by Mike Boehm, May 27: Thank you for telling the truth about this horrible play that we were tortured with at the Ahmanson Theatre. Yes, I confess, we left the theater before intermission because “The Black Rider,” quite simply, “made my teeth itch”! We could only pray that the Black Rider’s magic bullets would fly out to the audience and hit us so we would not have to endure any more of this trash.

I had pretty much stopped going to the Ahmanson to see the endless recycled, tired and tedious bus-and-truck musicals that has been their main fare for many years, and I hope that the presentation of “The Black Rider” is the beginning of something new and great at this venue.

“Black Rider” is so innovative, so gorgeous to look at and the actors so brilliant in their difficult-to-perform roles that it pains me to know that so many seem not to “get it.” It is such a simple boy-meets-girl, boy-loses-girl, boy-makes-a-really-big-mistake-to-get-girl-back story that I’m mystified as to how anyone can fail to understand the story!

Too bad for those who are so stuck in their musical comedy rut that they can’t appreciate this truly fabulous piece!
