Triumphing Over the Pain

Share

I have followed Mona Gable’s writing career because I grew up in San Diego. Her moving account of her childhood there (“Growth,” May 14) is proof that nothing is as it seems. She earned her writer’s stripes with hard-fought memories of tiptoeing around an ailing parent. I also had sick parents, and I remember too well the drive from Los Angeles down the 405 Freeway, knowing the sadness that would present itself coming and going. Gable’s clear, honest tone and selfless sharing of family were a perfect Mother’s Day gift. Sometimes you have to be reminded of the “growth” you’ve gained.
