Mexican masters pay a visit

Santa Fe, N.M.

Through Sept. 3: “Mexican Modern: Masters of the 20th Century” makes its only U.S. stop at the Museum of Fine Arts. The exhibition presents more than 60 works from internationally celebrated artists David Alfaro Siqueiros, Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo, Jose Clemente Orozco and other early masters of Mexican Modernism. Born of the Mexican Revolution, the work and its robust colors and simple imagery evoked national pride, turned high art into accessible populist commentary in its birthplace and influenced the styles of North American and European artists.

Museum of Fine Arts, 107 W. Palace Ave., Santa Fe. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesdays-Sundays. $7. Free 5-8 p.m. Fridays. (505) 476-5072, www.mfasantafe.org.
