A former customer service representative for Verizon Wireless was sentenced to nearly six years in federal prison for stealing and selling prepaid cellular personal identification numbers with a face value of about $21 million.

Timothy Charles Mattos, 34, of Folsom, Calif., pleaded guilty in February to two counts of fraud. He admitted gaining unauthorized access to the numbers and selling them to retailers at discount prices.

Buying the numbers allows Verizon customers to obtain additional prepaid minutes for cellular telephone use.
