At Least 58 Dead in Bus Explosion
From Times Wire Reports
A passenger bus apparently struck a mine in northeastern Sri Lanka today, killing at least 58 people and wounding 45 others in the worst incident since a 2002 cease-fire, the army said.
“There are small boys, children, ladies and clergy,” said Brig. Prasad Samarasinghe, a spokesman for the Sri Lankan military.
The explosion occurred in Anuradhapura district, which adjoins an area beset by violence between separatist Tamil Tiger rebels and the military.
