Job Seeker’s Withdrawal Is Actually Good News

I have no connection to the Screen Actors Guild but would like to congratulate it for not hiring Steve Diamond as executive director (“Front-Runner Rejects SAG Post,” June 3).

It has become too common for high-level candidates to portray themselves as essential and invaluable to an organization, thus making outrageous demands regarding salary and frivolous perks.

The truth is that there are other fish in the sea who can do the job equally well, if not better.

Only when boards of directors have the strength and intelligence to “just say no” to the ridiculous requests of inflated egos will we begin to see the potential for reform.

Contrary to the description of this as a “setback,” it is really a small path to progress. Let us hope for more.
