He Took Quite a Licking

Friday is Take Your Dog to Work Day. We have a real fondness for Fidos and need no convincing that dogs are generally sweeter and more loyal than--and we say this knowing that an angry mob may descend upon the magazine offices--cats. Still, taking a pooch to work may not be such a good idea. Long before he became the state’s top dog, Arnold Schwarzenegger, at right, hurt his back on the set of “Conan the Barbarian,” thanks to the canines in the cast. They chased him, and the future governor fell down a rock. “I was covered with scratches and bruises,” he’d recall. “It was probably a pretty good beginning for this movie, though. It set the tone.” We prefer a wagging tail when we get home.
