Charges Are Sought Against U.S. Soldier

Prosecutors requested the indictment of a U.S. soldier in the fatal shooting of an Italian intelligence agent at a Baghdad checkpoint.
Authorities are seeking the indictment on charges of murder and attempted murder in the shooting that killed Nicola Calipari on March 4, 2005.
He was mourned as a national hero.
Calipari was shot while heading to the Baghdad airport by car after securing the release of a kidnapped Italian journalist.
