Red Cross Approves Groups for Membership
An International Committee of the Red Cross conference rejected a Muslim group’s objections and approved a plan today that will allow Israel to join the worldwide humanitarian group, Israel’s ambassador said.
After daylong debate, the Red Cross approved a resolution that enables Israel’s Magen David Adom rescue service and the Palestine Red Crescent Society to join the group.
The resolution says Israel’s society can retain its red star of David instead of adopting the red cross or crescent used by other societies, Israeli Ambassador Itzhak Levanon said.
