No. 33’s winning history on tracks
When I flipped to Page 54 of Weekend [Letters, June 15], my heart skipped a beat at the photo of the race car.
Then I read the article that went with it and realized that it was only a half-scale version of the original.
The original No. 33 was a sprint car driven by Joe Barzda, a well-known driver on the East Coast racing circuit. It was powered by a V8-60 Ford engine and regularly won races over Offy-powered cars.
I worked on Barzda’s car when he and his brother owned California Speed & Sport Shop in the early ‘50s.
