Militant Cleric Presses for an Islamic State

An Indonesian militant cleric linked to bombings in Bali who was freed June 14 from a Jakarta prison insisted that the government implement Islamic law nationwide, but said Muslims also must respect other religions.
Speaking before about 60 leaders of his hard-line group, the Indonesian Mujahedin Council, Abu Bakar Bashir said secular philosophies “are all wrong because they are not based on the holy Koran.”
