In French or English, it’s a gem

WE were excited to see the article about Charlevoix, Canada [“Going Native Up North,” June 18]. We were there last summer and felt as though it was our own little find. The place seemed so undiscovered by Americans that we felt ambivalent -- did we want to tell everyone or no one, keeping it as our own secret?

It is very rural and very French -- to the point that even some of the staff that interfaced with the tourist public did not speak English. (We don’t speak a word of French but didn’t have any problem.) The food was incredible. We not only loved the restaurant you mentioned at La Ferme Eboulmontaise (which inspired me to learn to make cassoulet once home -- with the onion confit) but also one called Vice Versa in La Malbaie.
