From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Enrique Mora, the man who dug a 60-foot-deep hole in his frontyard hoping to strike gold, finished filling the pit Monday at the city’s request, fire officials said.

The city had given Mora, 63, until this week to plug the hole under a soil engineer’s guidance after a neighbor complained to the code enforcement department about two weeks ago.

Mora, a trombone player and band leader, and two other men he had hired used a backhoe to dump four feet of dirt and 20 gallons of water into the hole every half-hour.
