From Times Wire Reports

The House voted for a measure lifting some decades-old restrictions on contacts U.S. officials can have with Taiwan. The legislation has not been considered by the Senate.

The provision seeks to end State Department restrictions, in place since the United States established diplomatic relations with mainland China, that prevent high-ranking American military officers from traveling to Taiwan.

Also prohibited are meetings between civilian U.S. and Taiwanese officials in certain government buildings.
