Thousands of Miles Away, and a World of Heartbreak

Share

The cover story on Enrique, who followed his mother from Honduras to the U.S. and left his daughter behind, was so heartbreaking and riveting (“One Door Opens, Another Closes,” by Sonia Nazario, Feb. 19). As a mom, I don’t know how someone could leave a child behind, no matter how good one’s intentions are. It was distressing that Enrique’s girlfriend kept telling her daughter she would come back to Honduras. Even if she does come back, it probably won’t be anytime soon.

Thanks for the wonderful piece. I wondered what had happened to this family.

Halfway through the article, I stopped reading. What is the point of highlighting such a grossly dysfunctional family? The title should have been “Mistakes.”
