When it comes to a neighborhood, actor Josh Randall and his wife, actress Claire Rankin, know what they like.

The couple just sold their Paul Williams-designed cottage in the Hancock Park area for slightly more than $800,000 and bought a larger, three-bedroom Colonial Revival there for a bit under $1 million.

“We love the sense of community in Larchmont Village and the character and history of Hancock Park,” said Randall, who stars opposite Jenna Elfman in the new CBS series “Courting Alex.”

The Hancock Park homes and Larchmont Village stores and restaurants project a small-town atmosphere, like the one in “Ed,” the 2000-04 NBC series that featured Randall, 34, as a young doctor.

The upscale community has had its share of residents from the entertainment industry, partly due to its location near the studios.

Other actors who have been Hancock Park homeowners are Melanie Griffith; Antonio Banderas; Brooke Adams; Tony Shalhoub, star of the detective series “Monk”; and William L. Petersen, star of “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.”

Mary Woodward and her brothers, Andrew and John, represented Randall and Rankin in both of their real estate transactions. The Woodwards work out of the Hancock Park and Beverly Hills offices of Coldwell Banker Residential Real Estate.

Power couple says aloha to Oahu too

Actress Michelle Pfeiffer and her husband, writer-producer David E. Kelley, have listed their beachfront compound on the windward side of Oahu at $12.9 million.

The property is at Lanikai, one of the top American beaches, according to an annual survey by University of Maryland professor Stephen Leatherman, known as “Dr. Beach.” He liked Lanikai because of its beautiful water and mile-long white-sand beach.

Pfeiffer and Kelley own about 140 feet of beach frontage plus a 1930s vintage home with a guest cottage and a pool house. Altogether, there are six bedrooms and five bathrooms in 4,400 square feet in addition to several lanais and a pool on more than half an acre. The listing price includes the land, which is often leased in Hawaii.

The beach has aquamarine water and overlooks the three pyramid-shaped Mokulua Islands.

Perhaps the couple are just in the selling mood. In January, they made news in Los Angeles when they sold their Brentwood estate for about $19 million. That property had been on the market since June 2004, when the pair purchased a ranch north of Los Angeles.

A Studio City view for ‘Q’

Maggie Quigley, the Hong Kong film star nicknamed “Maggie Q,” has purchased a Studio City home for about $2.23 million.

Quigley, who appears with Tom Cruise in the upcoming “Mission: Impossible III,” bought a sleek contemporary home behind gates with an office, a media room or a den, concrete floors, a free-form pool and a grassy yard.

The 2,800-square-foot house, built in 2001, has three bedrooms, two bathrooms and Valley views.

Quigley, 26, appeared in “Rush Hour 2” (2001) and “Around the World in 80 Days” (2004) with Hong Kong action hero Jackie Chan.

A streamlined lifestyle design

Production designer Barry Robison took a breather after working on a string of high-profile movies and put his Bel-Air home of two years on the market at $959,000.

Robison decided to sell his home because he has properties in Napa and Palm Springs, and when not using them, he has been on location. When he sells, however, he may purchase an in-town pied-a-terre.

His Bel-Air home has two bedrooms and one bathroom in just under 1,200 square feet. The split-level home, with an open floor plan, is made of glass, dark wood and steel.

The modern-style house was built in 1960. Full-height glass separates the two-story living and dining spaces from the patio and garden. The home also has a loft and three parking spaces.

Robison was production designer last year on “Wedding Crashers” and “Fun With Dick and Jane” as well as the recently wrapped “You, Me and Dupree,” starring Kate Hudson, Michael Douglas and Matt Dillon.

Geri Berger of Windermere Properties, Sunset, has the listing.
