Israel Kills 2 in Strike on Gaza Border
An Israeli airstrike killed two Palestinian militants planting bombs inside the Gaza Strip border, Israeli and Palestinian officials said.
“Overnight our forces identified three Palestinians planting bombs near the border fence. There was an airstrike and the targets were hit,” an army spokeswoman said.
The militant group Islamic Jihad said two of its members were killed during a “mission of jihad.” The third militant apparently escaped.
The strike came a day after Israeli troops raided a West Bank refugee camp, killing a suspected Islamic Jihad militant and forcing two others to surrender, the army said.
At the Aqwar Jaba refugee camp near Jericho, troops said they killed one suspect when they fired at a “suspicious figure” under mattresses, fearing that he was armed. No weapon was found, the army said.
