What does he know about love? Not much

Share

Is a person who believes that keeping a relationship together for one whole year is a big deal really someone who should be purporting to dispense advice on love? [“Making It Past the First 365 Days,” May 4]. Howard Leff’s “don’t be selfish” and “don’t whine” advice is more on the order of what any reasonably articulate 4-year-old could tell you are the rules for a successful play date. If that’s the best advice Leff can offer to singles, then his one-year anniversary isn’t simply a milestone, I’d say it’s darn near a miracle.

And by the way, as someone who’s been married for 26 years now, I’d like to tell him that making it to one year is far too soon to start crowing that his is a love story with a happy ending. While I wish him the best, he should understand that one year is not only not an ending, it’s barely a prologue.

I enjoyed your mention of leaving Silver Lake for South Pasadena -- the 91030 -- but South Pas should remain the well-kept secret that it is. I love living here! Charlie’s Trio is like the gang at “Cheers.” I haven’t felt like I lived in an actual neighborhood since I was 13 in Torrance -- until now.
