Council won’t oversee Jewish school case
The City Council voted 9 to 6 Tuesday to refuse to take jurisdiction over controversial issues involving the use of the Yavneh Hebrew Academy in Hancock Park for Saturday services.
The city’s area planning commission voted earlier this year to allow the Jewish school to expand the number of people who could attend Saturday services and to build a fence around the property.
Councilman Tom LaBonge, whose district includes the school, wanted the council to reassess that decision and give neighbors a chance to be heard.
