Boy campaigns to keep mom in U.S.
A 7-year-old U.S. citizen left for Mexico in search of support for the plight of his mother, an immigration activist who has taken refuge in a Chicago church since August to avoid deportation.
Saul Arellano is to meet Tuesday with members of the Mexican House of Representatives and Senate in an effort to get a resolution supporting Elvira Arellano’s bid to stay in the United States.
Elvira Arellano has said that her deportation would effectively mean her son’s deportation as well, which she says would violate his rights.
She says her son represents more than 3 million children who are U.S. citizens but have parents who are here illegally.
