European Commission sets Microsoft deadline

The European Commission gave Microsoft Corp. little more than a week to comply with its 2004 antitrust decision against the Redmond, Wash.-based software giant and warned that its patience was running thin.

The Brussels-based commission, which has fined Microsoft once for noncompliance and could do so again, gave the company until Nov. 23 to provide all documents to help rivals tweak their software to run more smoothly with Microsoft’s Windows operating system.

The commission demanded the documents as part of its 2004 decision, which set a precedent for future Microsoft business practices and has affected its new operating system, Vista.
