GM plans discounts; Ford extends loan offers

General Motors Corp. said it would offer discounts that run until Jan. 2 to help clear out 2006 models, and Ford Motor Co. said it would extend its no-interest loans, after the automakers’ U.S. sales declined through October.

GM’s incentive program will begin Saturday and will let dealers lower prices on many 2006 and 2007 cars and trucks by as much as $2,000, a spokesman said. Dealers will decide which models to discount and how much. Ford said it was continuing interest-free financing on most 2006 models.
