Read his lips, but watch his actions
Re “A strange appointment,” editorial, Nov. 27
It is laudable that The Times notes the conflict between President Bush’s conciliatory remarks after the Nov. 7 elections and the furthering of the Republican religious agenda by appointing Eric Keroack, a right-wing, anti-contraception nut job, to the head of the government’s family planning office.
Not enough of this conflict has been noted in the past. I was stunned when the media accepted the conciliatory statements by the compassionate conservative without comment. Let us hope that this new alertness by the media continues. Otherwise, this will be a case of fool me twice, shame on me.
