Snoop’s arrest a hot topic
Snoop Dogg, the rapper and actor who attended a USC practice last season and caught a football that was tossed to him by LenDale White after a touchdown, has not visited a Trojans workout or stood along the Coliseum sideline this season.
But Snoop Dogg was a hot topic of conversation among the Trojans on Wednesday.
Snoop Dogg, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of drug possession and a weapon violation after taping an appearance on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.” When he left the Burbank city jail after posting bail early Wednesday morning, he was wearing a Trojans jersey bearing receiver Dwayne Jarrett’s No. 8 and a USC track suit.
“That was crazy, man,” Jarrett said after practice. “I was just like, ‘Wow.’
“It was cool because he wore it on the Jay Leno show and it was all fun, like ‘OK. He’s wearing it.’ And then afterward I was like, ‘Oh man. That’s all I could say, ‘Man.’ He had the 8 on.
“It’s just unfortunate. He’s a great guy. I just wish the best for him.”
Coach Pete Carroll said he was aware of the incident.
“I didn’t see it, so I really can’t comment about it,” Carroll said.
Carroll, however, teased Jarrett during a team meeting.
“He said, ‘Come on! What’s up with that?’ Everyone started laughing,” receiver Patrick Turner said.
Jarrett, who had a spectacular game against Notre Dame, said he had not given any thought to the possibility that Saturday’s game against UCLA could be the last time he wears No. 8 for USC in a regular-season game.
The junior reiterated that he would wait until the end of the season before deciding whether he would turn pro.

UCLA Coach Karl Dorrell chose Patrick Cowan over Ben Olson to start at quarterback against the Trojans.
Olson, a left-hander, started the first five games before suffering a knee injury. Cowan has started the last six games and led the Bruins to two consecutive wins.
“We would rather have seen the guy who hadn’t played a lot,” Carroll said. “I think that would have helped us a little bit just because he might have to kick off a little rust.
“Patrick has played very well, he’s done a lot of really good stuff.... He’s going to run around a lot and take off out of the pocket and he’s got a big arm too.”
The Trojans are prepared for both quarterbacks, according to cornerback Terrell Thomas.
“Cowan’s got a little more swagger out there; he can run out of there and throw the ball deep a lot,” Thomas said. “Ben Olson throws the deep ball, but he’s more of a pocket quarterback.”

Offensive lineman Drew Radovich is looking forward to playing against former Mission Viejo High teammate Chase Moline, who backs up Bruins defensive tackle Kevin Brown.
Radovich’s on-field visits with former teammates -- Nick Reed plays for Oregon -- usually occur during TV timeouts.
“Those things are about two minutes long so you’re just standing out there,” Radovich said. “It’s not all hatred out there.”

Running back Emmanuel Moody (ankle) practiced again and Carroll said the freshman was cleared to play against UCLA.... Running back Chauncey Washington participated in limited drills. Carroll said doctors evaluated the junior’s knee on Tuesday but he had not been updated.
