Bordello to open
Looks as if the sweet downtown spot Little Pedro’s is getting a makeover. Tony Gower, who co-owned the Derby with then-wife Tammi Gower in its heyday, is teaming up with designer Dana Hollister to reopen the venue as Bordello. Hollister owns the Paramour mansion in Silver Lake. The Bordello project also includes Gower’s pal Elizabeth Peterson and Hollister’s boyfriend, Jim Beneto, as partners. “It’s the oldest bar in downtown, dating back to the 1800s,” says Gower, who was always the first to be found swinging from his own chandeliers at the Derby. “It became a real working bordello in 1903.” Expect a soft opening this weekend when Joey Altruda performs and a swinging grand opening on Dec. 23 with the Royal Crown Revue.
Alice in party-land
Alice in Chains threw a party at Citizen Smith on Tuesday after its Wiltern LG show; musicians from bands such as Hurt, Godhead and Cardboard Vampires and rock star tattooist Connor Garrity were among the guests.... Saints & Sinners in Culver City was inundated with Thanksgiving outsiders. The swanky spot was so packed, club regulars had to jump behind the gold-flecked bar to pitch in; even the club’s off-duty doorman took over as bar back. DJ Lee’s mix of James Bond soundtrack music, ‘60s soul and ‘70s hard rock kept everyone aurally libated. David Arquette stopped by Friday and was his usual jovial self.... DJ AM and Steve Aoki are behind the new Sunday bash at LAX, where, apparently, they lock up the crystal and put a keg on the dance floor. Lindsay Lohan stopped in last weekend.
Bands get involved
The Knitting Factory celebrates the life of drummer Sandy West of the Runaways, who died of cancer in October, with a tribute show on Dec. 9.... Such artists as Jim Lindberg from Pennywise, Mike Ness from Social Distortion, Matt Skiba of Alkaline Trio, Chris Cheney of the Living End and members of Flogging Molly plan to perform punk rock karaoke at the Key Club on Dec. 14 to raise money for Wheels for Humanity, an organization dedicated to purchasing wheelchairs for those in need.
