Homeless, hopeless

Re “LAPD Says Streets Are No Place Like Home,” Oct. 10

The debate on whether or not homeless people should be able to live on the streets of skid row is an insensitive one. Skid row in Los Angeles is the biggest home in the U.S. for the homeless and the only option for most. Los Angeles has several abandoned homes and buildings that could be renovated and turned into housing. However, because of politics, those buildings continue to collect dust. There is also a shortage of shelters, and many times homeless people are turned away because of outlandish requirements. L.A. does not welcome the homeless on the streets of downtown, but what alternatives do they have? L.A. offers no solutions to them, and does not plan to.
