Bloomberg’s Car Stolen From Aide on Errand

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg’s 2001 Lexus sedan was carjacked in a New Jersey suburb Wednesday morning by two thieves who took the vehicle from a personal employee on an errand for the mayor.

The vehicle was recovered later Wednesday. Police said the suspects were at large.

According to Capt. Frank Lomia of the Hackensack, N.J., Police Department, a young woman approached the driver, Gladimir Bosnjak, 62, and asked him for money. Bosnjak refused and began to roll up his window. As he did, a man entered through the front passenger door and pushed Bosnjak out of the car after a struggle. The young woman then got into the Lexus, and the pair drove off.

Bosnjak was not seriously injured and declined medical attention.

Bloomberg’s car was found undamaged about six miles away in Fairlawn, N.J.

The mayor’s media office said that Bosnjak was not Bloomberg’s personal driver, and that the mayor is chauffeured by a police officer and has a security detail whenever he’s in a car.

The media office declined to provide further details about the errand.

Hackensack police are searching for the two suspects, described as in their mid-20s. Lomia said he didn’t believe the thieves knew they had stolen a car belonging to the mayor of New York City.
