Peruvian President Alan Garcia said that when he and his wife were separated last year he had a child by another woman.

“Between April 2004 and October 2005, when I was separated, I had a relationship with a high-quality person. From that relationship a child was born on February 2005,” Garcia said from the national palace.

He was accompanied by his wife, Pilar Nores.

Garcia’s predecessor, Alejandro Toledo, saw his popularity plummet when he fought a paternity suit from a woman who said he fathered her teenage daughter.
