* IHOP Corp., the Glendale-based operator of the International House of Pancakes restaurant chain, said third-quarter profit fell 5% to $11.3 million, or 62 cents a share, on a 4% downturn in sales to $88 million. IHOP raised its 2006 earnings forecast to $2.35 to $2.40 a share from previous guidance of $2.25 to $2.35. Analysts are looking for yearly earnings of $2.37 a share.

* Activision Inc., the Santa Monica video game publisher, said its fiscal second-quarter sales fell 15% from a year earlier but surpassed the company’s own guidance and analysts’ expectations.

The company also said an internal review of its past stock option practices indicated that grant dates might have been manipulated.

Activision, whose games include “Doom” and the “Tony Hawk” series, said it would be unable to release full second-quarter results until it completed a review of its historical stock option grants.

Activision shares closed down 56 cents at $14.27, and rose $1.14 in after-hours trading.
