Understanding terrorists and Bush
Re “So you feel safer now?” Opinion, Sept. 8
Rosa Brooks accuses the Bush administration of aggravating terrorism by not paying attention to why terrorists hate us. It is Brooks who has not been paying attention to the words -- and deeds -- of Al Qaeda.
Is Brooks aware of Muslim claims to “Andalusia” (Spain) or Indian-held Kashmir? Is she aware of our foes’ desire to establish Sharia (Islamic law) everywhere in the world? How will understanding these claims and their underlying ideology eliminate or even lessen conflict in the world?

Brooks summarizes perfectly the Bush myth, exposing the president’s failures in foreign policy and security. The same could be said about Bush’s domestic policies -- the same Kool-Aid, just a different flavor.
