From Times Staff Reports

A Marine staff sergeant was found not guilty of dereliction of duty in the drowning death of a drill instructor at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, officials announced Wednesday.

A military judge said evidence did not indicate that Staff Sgt. Duane D. Dishon was the noncommissioned officer in charge of the swimming pool when Staff Sgt. Andrew Gonzales drowned in August 2005.

Two swimming instructors still face courts-martial.
