Want real ‘Star Trek’ stuff? Make it so

With the next “Star Trek” film at least two years off, fans looking for a quick fix should transport themselves over to Christie’s Los Angeles, where, through Saturday, they can view the likes of a three-foot-wide model of a Romulan Warbird or a Starfleet uniform worn by Patrick Stewart as Captain Jean-Luc Picard.

The Warbird and uniforms are among about 30 set and production pieces that have been touring the U.S. and parts of Europe on their way to New York for a three-day mega “Star Trek” auction that begins Oct. 5. Billed as “40 Years of Star Trek: The Collection,” the auction features more than 1,000 items drawn from the CBS Paramount Television Studios archives.

“This is the first sale to come directly from the studio,” says Cathy Elkies, the director of Special Collections at Christie’s. “It’s also the most comprehensive in that all 11 films and five live-action series are represented in one form or another.”

Elkies expects the sales total for the auction to reach $3 million. But although a bridge set from the “Enterprise” TV series boasts a pre-sale estimate of $20,000 to $30,000, Elkies says the bulk of the lots are expected to fetch less than $1,000, with many selling in the $200 to $300 range.

And at those prices, even budget-minded Trekkies may be able to come away with their very own Tribble, tricorder or Vulcan ears.

“40 Years of Star Trek: The Collection,” Christie’s Los Angeles, 360 N. Camden Drive, Beverly Hills. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Today through Saturday. (310) 385-2600, www.christies.com/startrek.
