Need for Bank Cleanup Is Urgent, Putin Says

President Vladimir V. Putin called for urgent action to clean up Russia’s banking system, which he said was being used for criminal ends, after the slaying of a top central banker who waged a war on money laundering. At an emergency meeting of bankers and law enforcement officials, Putin urged creation of an interagency task force of prosecutors, tax inspectors, central bankers and the security services.
