The Defense Department last week identified the following American military personnel killed in Afghanistan and Iraq or who died at a military hospital of their injuries:

Harley D. Andrews, 22, of Yuba City, Calif.; specialist, Army. Andrews was killed Monday when a roadside bomb exploded near his vehicle in Ramadi, Iraq, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 54th Engineer Battalion, 130th Engineer Brigade, Warner Barracks in Bamberg, Germany.

Johnathan L. Benson, 21, of North Branch, Minn.; corporal, Marine Corps. Benson died Sept. 9 at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio of wounds suffered June 17 when a roadside bomb exploded near his vehicle in Habbaniya, Iraq, west of Baghdad. He lost his left leg and part of his left arm, and was paralyzed from the waist down. Benson was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Pendleton.

John A. Carroll, 26, of Ponca City, Okla.; sergeant, Army. Carroll was killed Sept. 6 when his unit was attacked with small-arms fire while on foot patrol in Ramadi, Iraq, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 6th Infantry Regiment, 1st Armored Division in Baumholder, Germany.

Jeremy E. DePottey, 26, of Ironwood, Mich.; sergeant, Army. DePottey was killed Monday when his vehicle rolled over while on patrol in eastern Afghanistan’s Kunar province near the town of Asadabad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division at Ft. Drum, N.Y.

Michael T. Fuga, 47, of Nuuli, American Samoa; sergeant first class, Army National Guard. Fuga was killed Sept. 9 when his unit was attacked with small-arms fire in the southern Afghanistan city of Kandahar. He was assigned to the 35th Special Troops Battalion, Army National Guard in Kansas City, Mo.

Merideth L. Howard, 52, of Alameda, Calif.; sergeant first class, Army Reserve. Howard was one of two reservists killed Sept. 8 when a car bomb exploded near their Humvee in the capital city of Kabul, Afghanistan. She was assigned to the 405th Civil Affairs Battalion, Army Reserve at Ft. Bragg, N.C.

Alexander Jordan, 31, of Miami; specialist, Army. Jordan was killed Sept. 10 when his unit was attacked with small-arms fire in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 172nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team at Ft. Richardson, Alaska.

Nathaniel B. Lindsey, 38, of Troutdale, Ore.; sergeant, Army National Guard. Lindsey was killed Sept. 9 when Taliban militants attacked his unit with either improvised explosive devices or rocket-propelled grenades and small-arms fire in southern Afghanistan’s Zabul province near the town of Shajoy. He had been on patrol with U.S. troops and members of the Afghan National Army. Lindsey was assigned to the 41st Brigade Combat Team, Army National Guard in Portland, Ore.

Matthew C. Mattingly, 30, of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; captain, Army. Mattingly was killed Wednesday when he was struck by gunfire that hit his Kiowa reconnaissance helicopter over Mosul, Iraq, northwest of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, N.C.

Ryan A. Miller, 19, of Pearland, Texas; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Miller was killed Thursday when his Humvee struck a roadside bomb in Iraq’s Al Anbar province, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, 3rd Marine Expeditionary Force in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii.

Luis A. Montes, 22, of El Centro, Calif.; sergeant, Army. Montes died Sept. 7 at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio of burn injuries suffered Sept. 1 when his vehicle struck a roadside bomb in Abu Ghraib, Iraq, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Robert J. Paul, 43, of The Dalles, Ore.; staff sergeant, Army Reserve. Paul was one of two reservists killed Sept. 8 when a car bomb exploded near their Humvee in the capital city of Kabul, Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 405th Civil Affairs Battalion, Army Reserve at Ft. Bragg, N.C.

Emily J.T. Perez, 23, of Texas; second lieutenant, Army. Perez was killed Tuesday when a roadside bomb exploded near her Humvee in Al Kifl, Iraq, south of Baghdad. She was assigned to the 204th Support Battalion, 2nd Brigade, 4th Infantry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

David J. Ramsey, 27, of Tacoma, Wash.; specialist, Army. Ramsey was medically evacuated from Iraq on Aug. 24 and died Sept. 7 in Spanaway, Wash., from injuries suffered in a noncombat-related incident. The cause of death was not disclosed. He was assigned to the 47th Combat Support Hospital, 62nd Medical Brigade at Ft. Lewis, Wash.

Anthony P. Seig, 19, of Sunman, Ind.; private first class, Army. Seig was killed Sept. 9 in a rocket attack on his barracks in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 118th Military Police Company, 519th Military Police Battalion, 16th Military Police Brigade at Ft. Bragg, N.C.

David T. Weir, 23, of Cleveland, Tenn.; sergeant, Army. Weir died Thursday of injuries suffered a day earlier when his unit was attacked with rocket-propelled grenades and small-arms fire in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 61st Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division at Ft. Campbell, Ky.
